Emerge Gallery and Art Center

For those of you who know about Emerge, you know it’s a wonderland of artistic creativity and educational opportunity.  For those of you who may be new to the area, or don’t know much about the local art community, you will definitely want to check this place out!

Emerge Gallery and Art Center is a non-profit art center that boasts two exhibition spaces, a sales gallery and artist studios.  Director Holly Garriott officially opened Emerge in 2001, and works closely with the ECU School of Art and Design to give students an opportunity to work directly with the art community.  “One major mission of Emerge Gallery is to act as a stepping-stone for student artists and promote practical art experience,” said Garriott.  Emerge acts as a classroom for ECU’s Community Arts Management class and each semester the students actually run the gallery.

Garriott said she works with the ECU School of Art, local businesses and Pitt County Schools to keep the two exhibition spaces full with monthly shows, “including professional exhibitions, regional juried shows, and student thesis and senior exhibitions.”  She wanted a place where local students and artists could creatively exhibit their work, while at the same time exposing the community to a wide range of art mediums and styles.

The sales gallery is a kaleidoscope of color, texture and amazing talent.  You can find beautiful sculptures, jewelry, ceramics, photography, paintings, textiles and prints all for sale.  The prices are very reasonable when you think about the time, energy and effort put into every hand-made piece of art available.  And with Christmas just around the corner, you could have stunning, one-of-a-kind presents for all your friends and family members.

Emerge is excited to announce that beginning in January 2007, they will have a full Community Art Center where ECU students, staff and community members can take pottery, jewelry making, book arts and general art classes.  For more information on this fantastic gallery visit www.emergegallery.com, call (252) 551-6947, or email info@emergegallery.com.  And everyone is encouraged to visit the gallery in person at 404 S. Evans Street.
